  • Any chance that this app will be coming to the app store for Macs? Would rather not use a separate device for tracking. (Currently use the Pomodoro app that sits on the Mac bar at the top.) 🙂

    • It will take me a bit to get the Mac version into the store. It’s my first El Capitan app, so I’m learning a lot. My goal is to have it live by late September / early October =)

  • Hi Chris, I love the app but noticed some strange behavior when pausing a sprint.
After resuming, the seconds show negative values sometimes. Moreover, pausing more than once occasionally resets the timer to the value of the first break.

    • You’re the third person to report this behavior, and I’ve logged it as a bug. It could be an issue with 32bit code running on 64 bit processors. Regardless, I’ll look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Any chance this app will come out for Android?

    Reply
    • It’s unlikely =(

I only know how to develop for iPhone, and since I’m not really making any money on it I’m reluctant to shell out a couple grand to have an Android developer take it on. I do have a spreadsheet available, though I know it’s not the same.

      • Maybe you (we) will get lucky and some Android developer will read your book, realize the reason why, and be unable to resist the compulsion to create 5KWPH for the Play Store. While we’re at it, I do most of my writing on my Chromebook, so I might as well wish for a Chrome OS developer to do the same for it.

        Meanwhile, I’m using the spreadsheet.

        Thanks, Chris.

      • A shame really

Hope the situation changes and we non-apple rabble get to enjoy your app.

        Best of luck.

    • Hi, John. This is a known bug in iOS, unfortunately. If you hit purchase again, that should fix it. Note that you will NOT be charged twice for doing this.

  • Thanks for this great spreadsheet and the app, Chris. I’m using both. Why? Because while I can set separate projects in the app [Yes, I bought you a coffee, you’re welcome 🙂 ] I want to track my WPH separately. This is because I write very differently for different types of projects. For instance, non-fiction projects I have to write both the code and examples and I write those while I’m writing the book text. These slow down my absolute words per hour metric, but the books still get written (working on my sixth non-fiction book), so while I’m trying to speed up my pace there, it’s not the same. However my fiction books I am currently averaging around 1300 words per hour on fiction, and I’d like to speed that up without getting discouraged by the non-fiction pace. So I track one in the app and one in the spreadsheet.

Thanks again for all that you do.

  • Author Tim W. Long suggested I check out your books, and I’m glad I did. I’ve been wanting to increase both my productivity and my marketing skills. If I really buckle down I can write two novels a year, and I work a full time job, so you know I’m not getting much me time. The most I’ve ever written in an hour has been about 2600 words, I was in the zone, but that doesn’t happen everyday. Your book is showing me how to organize myself so I can get into the zone easier and double that occasional output on a regular basis. The only problem I have at this stage is teaching myself to write past my typos, sometimes it seems I spend more time hitting the backspace than any other key.

    Thanks,

  • Chris, hi.

Thanks for all the great work. your books are a great help, and in inspiration.

I just downloaded your 5,000 Words Per Hour app for an iPad and I bought the Premium add-on. But I can’t get it to operate. I closed and quit the app, restarted it, relaunched it from the App store. Whaddup? Halp !!1!

  • hello Chris, according to your book I should’ve found the spreadsheet here since I don’t have an iPhone or an iPad, but I didn’t so, where can I get that thing? I’m motivated enough to make my own, so I shall.

  • Hey Chris,
I am starting using your spreadsheet. Thank you so much. Just a few questions. I have read your book 5000 words per hour. Great book and is helping.
What do you put in the spreadsheet “starting count” “ending count”?
Thanks for the great help and books.
